IT Director, Xellia Pharmaceuticals

Xellia Pharmaceuticals is an international leading producer of life saving anti-infective drugs with more than 50 years experience in the fermented antibiotics. Xellia Pharmaceuticals has entered an exiting era with expanded product offering through a new partnership network and a broader technology platform.

The position

To head up the Corporate IT organization, Xellia is currently seeking a strategically minded seasoned IT Director. The IT Director will have the overall responsibility for delivering great IT solutions to serve the needs of Xellia Pharmaceuticals. This includes both operational responsibility for excellent service delivery and system performance but also includes strategic responsibility for defining, gaining commitment to and driving implementation of IT strategy.

Xellia IT currently employs 25 people with an even split between “Infrastructure” and “Business Applications”. The majority of employees are located in the Copenhagen site but employees are currently also present in Norway, Hungary, China and USA.

The position of IT Director is a new position that has been established to take the full responsibility of bringing Xellia Pharmaceuticals IT solutions to the next level. The IT Director reports to VP Finance and the new IT Director will be expected to review the current setup and operational mode and to design and implement an optimal model going forward.

The ideal candidate

Some of the key qualifications for the role include:


  • Solid experience from managing IT and business applications – likely candidates have 15 years experience of which half has been in a managerial role
  • Substantial and relevant experience from working with IT at a strategic level. Ideally the candidate has driven the development of IT strategy at corporate level.
  • The ideal candidate has worked within the pharmaceutical industry –though this is not mandatory and experience from within for example an ISO certified production company is also considered an asset
  • Solid experience from working with optimisation (and implementation) of ERP systems in a large or medium sized organisation
  • It is a benefit to have experience from running og implementing an IT helpdesk/infrastructure function


On a personal level, some keywords for the ideal candidate include


  • Excellent communication and business (understanding) skills, good leadership skills, possibility to work with line organization as well as leadership team, must have hands-on approach as well as strategic skills,
  • Customer-oriented nature that enables a clearly business- and customer driven IT function and IT strategy
  • Strong analytical skills and a very solid ERP understanding
  • Versatile leadership skills – from supportive and coaching to more challenging
  • Strong executor, structured and disciplined working style
  • Mature demeanour and ability to interact effectively at all levels in the organization
  • A balance between strong professional skills and a very professional approach to work but still humble and able to relate informally to others.
