Head of Communications, Bauer Media OCP

The position

Bauer Media is a multi-business company that entertains, informs, and serves over 200 million people across 14 countries. Family-owned and originated more than 150 years ago in Germany, Bauer Media currently consists of four Business Areas – Publishing, Audio, Online Comparison Platforms, and SME Services – that operate in 14 countries.

Online Comparison Platforms help consumers make smarter and faster choices by providing transparency in otherwise opaque markets like insurance, personal finance, telecommunication and energy services. Bauer Media Group holds market-leading positions in online comparison in seven European countries. Every year more than ten million people are helped by one of the Bauer Media online comparison platforms to save time and money when making a purchasing decision.

As Head of Communications, you will support the President of the Online Comparison Platforms Business Area (Morten Heuing, based in Copenhagen) in all communications matters. You will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that support implementation of the Business Area strategy internally and externally. You will have close collaboration with the Bauer Media Group Communication team to whom you also report in matrix. And you will be depending on garnering the support and engagement of communication teams embedded in the local brands.

Core responsibilities in the role include:

  • Develop and implement Business Area communication strategies.
  • Act as press Spokesperson for the Business Area together with the communications specialists in the local country-organizations.
  • Advise the President of the Business Area on his/ her individual communication to achieve the desired trust and impact for the business, both for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide communications counsel and support to executives of the Business Area to help them realize the Business Area strategy and to support the company growth and transformation initiatives.
  • Lead, guide and develop a high performing communications community and network to ensure an overarching communication approach and common narrative throughout the Business Area
  • Lead the communication strategy and implementation for specific BU strategically important projects
  • Work closely with the Bauer Group Communication Team to embed group projects and initiatives related to corporate strategy and culture transformation, employer branding and corporate affairs.
  • Facilitate (both technically and content) communication events (from structured all-hands to ad-hoc needs)

You will be organizationally anchored in the Business Area and have a functional reporting line to the Head of Group Communications based in the corporate HQ in Hamburg. You will enjoy a wide network of stakeholders: Business Area senior leadership team, Group Communications as well as communications professionals across the local businesses in the Online Comparison Platforms business. You will be based in Copenhagen and the role entails some degree of European travel – however also entails significant degrees of freedom in how you structure your days.

The Online Comparison Platforms business is a strategic investment area for Bauer Media Group. The business is experiencing substantial growth and have an appetite for more. The culture is contemporary and informal while at the same time highly ambitious.

Ideal profile

As ideal candidate for the role, you are a business-savvy communications professional who enjoys working quite hands-on in a high-paced international business with lots of opportunity for you to shape things.

The Online Comparison Platforms business has seen lots of growth and is gradually transforming from highly decentral into a somewhat more integrated operating model. This requires lots of compassionate and clear communications – and requires a communication manager who has a clear sense of direction but also lots of empathy.

You probably have at least five years of experience working as a communications partner within an international corporate (without a lot of red tape) and/or an agency environment and now want to be part of a smaller but rapidly growing company.

More specifically, you probably have:

  • A strong and broad understanding of corporate communications (internal and external) – tactics and tools.
  • Some of experience with large scale business and culture transformation; principles, methodologies and tools
  • Experience with crisis communication – either personally or in a role where you supported others in orchestrating crisis communications.
  • Good fundamental communication skills – including writing, presentations and campaign-building skills. The important thing is that you have the ability to translate complex messages into engaging and informative tactics.
  • A knack for creative, thoughtful and passionate storytelling.
  • A style of interaction that makes you a natural go-to person for senior leaders that need to sharpen their story or spar about messaging.
